And all are always firmly dedicated to providing for the best education and well-being of all our students. The many prizes received by our students in all areas attest to the success of this dream. On Oct 31st our big party for senior students and alumni was a very happy occasion for meeting again, remembering great experiences, super singing and dancing and the birth of our Alumni Association which we hope will be called the Georginas and the Dragons and which will have a chance to meet regularly for sports and cultural and social occasions. We continue to foster our dream in a beautiful setting , surrounded by the best teachers and highly motivated students who enjoy a very enriching and happy childhood. Long live Saint George's School !

"The idea to create our school came up many years ago as a project. We, founders of the school, Nevers Díaz and María Isabel Varela, have been friends and schoolmates since Primary School. One afternoon, while studying for a test we decided we would get trained as educators and acquire some experience teaching so we could then start a very good quality school. In it, learning would be motivating and fun, children would develop their abilities to the full and form their opinions rather than have to repeat lessons mechanically."
Education and Experience
That was just the road they pursued. Nevers is an English teacher graduated from the "Instituto de Profesores Artigas" in Uruguay, with a long teaching career in Primary and Secondary schools. Later she specialized in pre-schoolers. After a year training and teaching in England, she founded and directed "Let´s Play", the well-known Nursery School in Montevideo. She also created the TV programme by the same name, teaching English to young children which was broadcast for three years with a very high rate of acceptance by viewers and to excellent educational critical acclaim. She has also directed and acted in several theatre shows for children and adults. Nevers has poured all these experiences into teaching using movement, rhythm, games, dancing, and singing in her lessons to motivate the child´s curiosity and learning with pleasure. The teachers working under her guidance, especially with the younger children, use these techniques and experiences adding each of them their own personal touch.
Discover the World
Meanwhile, María Isabel, after obtaining the General Certificate of Secondary Education from Cambridge University, left Uruguay very young with a scholarship to study a Bachelor of Arts at Connecticut College; a lifetime experience! She then studied for a Master of Arts and Doctorate in Literature at the University of California, together with university summer courses at Avignon, Madrid, and Munich. Those were ten fruitful years of studies and experience that she was then able to put into practice in Montevideo teaching International Baccalaureate in several Secondary schools.
Critical Thought
Education in Primary School is also a marvellous discovery of the world of knowledge and the awakening of young minds to critical thinking. These are concepts we apply at Saint George´s School, making use of very good recent programmes of education developed in Great Britain and the U.S.A.
1992: Saint George´s is born
In the year 1992 that dream for which Nevers and María Isabel had carefully prepared and worked so hard came true: Saint George´s School was born.
Parents with Vision
Several wonderful parents who believed in the project and who shared with the founders the same philosophy for their children´s education joined the school.
These are parents who know about the dedication and care needed by a child and who have the same ideas as to how children must be helped to grow in all aspects, how they must acquire the tools needed to continue growing with self-assurance.
Dedicated Teachers
There is a staff of carefully selected teachers at Saint George´s School, who motivate the children with affection, making them feel secure to work independently, challenging them not to be afraid to ask questions and providing them with the means to find answers and discover the vast world of thought and knowledge. They do so in both English and Spanish, which provides the children with a tool that opens the world to them. The excellent results obtained in the Trinity College Examination encourage us to continue working in this way.
